Enthymemes

The heart of Aristotle's theory of logical proof is Enthymemes. Unlike syllogisms which are concerned with scientific truths, Enthymemes are a rhetorical syllogism that deal with probable knowledge. An enthymeme gets it premises from probability, signs and examples.

Here is an example of an Enthymeme:

  • "With a name like Smucker's, it has to be good" - it has a premise and a conclusion.
